Welcome to our 100th Anniversary Weekend
After a year and a half of planning, the weekend celebrating our 100th Anniversary is upon us. We thank all who have worked so hard to ensure us a memorable weekend. Here are some highlights of our planned events.
Friday, October 6th Dombalis Hall 7:00 p.m.
Our kick-off event is a Welcoming Reception generously being hosted by our Philoptochos. Abundant refreshments will be served, snapshots of yesteryear will be shown on two screens and brief presentations will be made by our own Fr. John Constantine, Chris N. Dombalis and our nonagenarian Finnie Theofanos.
Saturday, October 7th. Tours and Gala
Our curator par excellence Sylvia Evans will put on her other hat as professional tour guide and offer tours as shown below. Join her to learn more about these meaningful venues.
Our GALA Dinner Dance will be held at the Omni Hotel (100 South 12th Street) beginning at 5:00 p.m. This event is a sell-out but we are trying to accommodate those on the waiting list. No paper tickets are needed for those attending; the master guest list and seating designation will be available at the reception table. The evening begins with a cocktail hour with complimentary beverages and hors d’oeuvres, followed by dinner with table side wine service, and dancing with live music by Apollonia. There will be brief greetings by dignitaries and presentations by His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos and two others. The event includes two complimentary drink tickets, after which a cash only bar (hotel cannot accept credit cards at this time) will be available if guests wish to purchase additional beverages.
Sunday, October 8th Hierarchal Liturgy and Picnic
His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos will preside over the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy ad Memorial Service for our Founding Members. This is what the weekend is truly about, the founding of a church community to worship God and share fellowship in our Lord’s name. Be sure to attend the church service to offer your thanks and please be on time in respect for our Metropolitan’s visit.
An “old fashioned” picnic at the site where the early members of our church gathered (the Carillon at Byrd Park) will begin at 1:00 p.m. A lamb on the spit will be roasted and served with many accompaniments. Please bring your lawn chairs as we do for our annual picnic since there is not sufficient seating at the picnic area. Many thanks to the AHEPA, Daughters of Penelope, Parish Council, and Delta Engineering for hosting this event.
